When you think of North Miami Beach, you probably don’t think of enchanted forests or carnie burial sites. But the city is home to these and many other curious attractions that draws flocks of visitors and locals alike. The next time you’re looking for something new to do, pay a visit to these six North Miami Beach attractions.
Pegasus and Dragon Statue
Did you know that the second-tallest statue in the contiguous United States is located right here in North Miami, making it one of the best North Miami Beach attractions? The Pegasus and Dragon statue depicts a mythical scene of good versus evil at Gulfstream Park. Standing 110 feet tall, it is thought to be the largest bronze equine statue in the world! At night, a laser light show illuminates the beasts and flames shoot from the dragon’s mouth. Can you get much cooler than that?!
Miami Showmen’s Association Rest
Travel to Southern Memorial Park and you’ll find a large plot devoted to carnies. A life-sized painted elephant and two lions stand in memory of South Florida’s fallen carnival workers. The impressive statues were imported from Italy and are well-maintained, making the perfect photo opportunity!
Enchanted Forest Park
You don’t have to go far to escape North Miami’s suburban bustle to find a charming oasis straight out of a fairytale. Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park is 22 acres of subtropical plants, lush trees, flowing creeks and paved trails. Go for an afternoon of horseback riding or pack a picnic and relax away from the city.
Lock & Load Museum
Learn about firearms of the past, present and future at Lock & Load Museum. Get up close and personal with missiles, battleship projectiles, swords, daggers and other items from the Civil War, Vietnam War and World Wars. Want to try some of the items out? Take a machine gun for a spin at the indoor shooting range.
The Cloisters of the Ancient Spanish Monastery
The Cloisters of the Ancient Spanish Monastery offer a taste of Europe right here in our neighborhood. The Monastery was rebuilt in North Miami Beach stone by stone to replicate its original form from 1141 AD. Spend some time reflecting in the peaceful gardens or explore the museum to learn more about the Monastery’s history. You can also attend services as the site is now an active Episcopal church.
Point Lounge, One of Miami’s Oldest Dive Bars
The old saying, “make new friends, but keep the old” can be applied to bars, too! The world-famous Point Lounge is tucked inside the Sans Souci shopping center. The Point Lounge was opened in the 1950s before much else existed in the area. Look for the pink neon lights and old-time jukebox, and also make sure to check out the curio cabinet filled with photos of patrons and other relics. Think you might be the next Diana Ross? Show off your pipes on the karaoke stage!
